Members of the Bits ‘n’ Pieces Quilt Guild of Ballwin, Missouri, are taking up the challenge to create quilts with a special “Easy Being Green” message. The rules are simple: the front of the quilt must include (1) something green, and (2) something recycled, reused, re-purposed, re-crafted, or re-imagined. Creative sparks are igniting, and quilts are enlivened with all types of re-purposed fabrics and clothing, parts of old quilts, recylables, and a sparkle of embellishments. The quilts range from environmental messages to creative uses for recycled materials. Every quilt promises to be unique.
These photographs provide just a small sampling of the “Green” Challenge entries. To see these and other quilts from the creative women of the Bits ‘n Pieces Quilt Guild, visit their “Fanfare of Quilts 2010” Show, which will be held Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday March 21, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Queeny Park, 550 Weidman Road, Ballwin, MO 63011. Admission is $7 and is good for both days.
The public will judge the “Easy Being Green” entries, as well as other guild-sponsored quilt challenges. The show is comprehensive and will host 350+ quilts, demonstrations, appraisals, and vendors. Other special exhibits include Quilts by Offenders, in the Department of Corrections Prison Reparation Program, and hilariously decorated bras to promote humor in health and healing. The St. Luke’s Hospital Mammography van will be on site during show hours.
